How Are Tongues Used In Church
Many of us have concerns over the gift of tongues which occurred throughout Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection. There are some denominations in the Christian faith that do not believe that it is a gift flowing today. At Manifested Faith Ministries, we firmly believe that all of the gifts are alive today and the Holy Spirit still moves. However, we encourage everyone who has these gifts to use them in an orderly way. Paul explains orderly worship in I Corinthians 14.
- Is it necessary to have the evidence of “other tongues” in order to know that you have the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
- I Corinthians 12:29-31, 8-11
- When one speaks in tongues, who are they speaking to?
- I Corinthians 14:2
- Why is that?
- I Corinthians 14:2 (latter half of verse)
- Does speaking in tongues edify the church?
- I Corinthians 14:4
- If speaking in tongues doesn’t edify the church, what does Paul teach us about properly using this gift?
- What gifts should we be seeking?
- I Corinthians 14:2

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding (mind) is unfruitful. (vs.14) So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind (vs. 15) But in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
